3. CRUSHING

Pipette tip boxes have multiple parts that vary in shape and size. Some are easy for the shredder to shred down into bits anddd some are not!

The bigger parts (usually the bottom part of the pipette tip box - shown above to the right) are set aside for this step... crushing!! They have to be broken into smaller and less cube-shaped pieces before shredding!

Crushing is a very scientific process—just kidding! We throw a bunch of large box parts into a sturdy bin and then smash them with a metal pole. It’s basically a workout with a purpose, turning chaos into compacted material ready for recycling. Who knew smashing could be so satisfying?

We are currently working on a crusher design that is a little more high-tech... so stay tuned!
